Does Broccoli Extract Powder Have Sulforaphane?

Aug 19, 2022 Leave a message

Broccoli extract powder is made from broccoli seeds through hot water extraction, solid-liquid separation, concentration, spray drying and other steps. The water extract of broccoli seeds contains sulforaphane, which reacts with myrosinase to generate sulforaphane after being absorbed by the human body.

Sulforaphane is a glucosinolate in cruciferous vegetables, and its precursor sulforaphane is found in high amounts in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli. Studies have shown that broccoli seeds have the highest levels of sulforaphane and decrease as the seeds germinate and grow.

Sulforaphane

The Role of Sulforaphane

1. Detox

The sulforaphane in broccoli sprouts promotes the body's natural detoxification mechanisms in a number of ways. As an indirect antioxidant, it increases the antioxidant capacity of cells, not just providing antioxidants like astaxanthin and similar ones.

2. Cancer Prevention

Sulforaphane has been shown to:

• Targeted killing of cancer cells while protecting healthy cells

• Kills breast, cervical, liver, prostate and colorectal cancer cells in clinical studies

• Inhibits the growth of cancer cells while promoting the growth of healthy cells

• Inhibits skin and bladder cancer development in mouse studies

• Increased efficacy of cancer drugs (meaning lower doses can be used).

3. Protect the heart

We already know that sulforaphane is a potent antioxidant that boosts the body's own antioxidant capacity. Therefore, it has a strong anti-inflammatory effect and can reduce the types of reactive oxygen species by increasing the oxygen content. Both mechanisms benefit the heart and may explain why studies have shown it to be cardioprotective.

Sulforaphane can also benefit the heart in several other ways. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is released when chewed. This compound provides sulphur when necessary and is therefore cardioprotective.

Studies have also found that it helps lower blood pressure levels and triglycerides in people with high blood pressure.

4. Protect the liver

Sulforaphane supports the liver by reducing oxidative stress. It also improves alcohol tolerance and reduces the negative effects of alcohol by inducing aldehyde dehydrogenase.
