Introduction of Product
L-Menthol(Also known as L-Peppermint camphor) is a naturally occurring organic compound with a distinctive minty fragrance. It is commonly derived from peppermint oil or other mint plant extracts. L-Peppermint camphor appears as colorless needle-shaped crystals and is known for its cooling and soothing properties. It's worth noting that L-Peppermint camphor should be used in appropriate concentrations and according to safety guidelines due to its strong cooling properties. Nonetheless, its versatility and pleasant aroma make it a popular ingredient in numerous consumer products across various industries.
L-Peppermint camphor is produced by cooling, crystallizing, and separating natural peppermint oil. Peppermint oil contains 50-60% menthol, which crystallizes out when cooled to 15°C. The oil is then cooled to°C to obtain more menthol, and further cooled to -10°C to obtain additional menthol. 50% of the menthol can be extracted using this method. L-Peppermint camphor can also be produced from L-Peppermint camphor. The remaining oil after extraction is distilled under reduced pressure to remove terpenes (about 20-25%), then dissolved in 96% ethanol and reduced to menthol using sodium metal. Synthetic (dl-) menthol is obtained from p-anisaldehyde.
