What is Vanillin?

Vanillin is widely present in dried vanilla beans at about 20 g/kg. In western countries, many cooks and housewives buy dried dark vanilla beans for daily cooking. Or use it to make vanilla ice cream, vanilla cake, vanilla custard, vanilla chocolate, and more.

Scientific research shows that vanillin has antioxidant properties, can reduce cholesterol levels, prevent atherosclerosis, prevent heart disease and stroke; it can also eliminate free radicals and has a certain role in preventing cancer; it can also relieve arthritis, gout and other inflammations.

In addition, vanillin can also prevent obesity, indirectly achieve the purpose of weight control by increasing the thermic effect of food and reducing the absorption of food energy in the body.

What Are The Side Effects of Vanillin?

According to scientific research, large doses of vanillin can indeed cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, and even damage to the liver and kidneys. However, after a rigorous assessment by the expert group of the International Codex Alimentarius Commission, it is believed that for the safety of methyl vanillin, an adult weighing 60 kg eats 600 mg a day without a problem. Similarly, a 60kg adult would have no problem eating 180mg of ethyl vanillin per day.

Where Does Vanillin Come From?

1. Extracted from natural plants

On the one hand, the cultivation of vanilla is limited by geographical conditions (the main producing areas are concentrated in Indonesia, Mexico, etc.), on the other hand, manual pollination is required in the planting process, which is labor-intensive, so it is difficult to plant on a large scale.

2. Chemical synthesis

Chemically Synthetic Vanillin uses industrial pulp waste liquid and petrochemicals as raw materials, which has many advantages such as simple process, low cost, and high yield. However, the chemically synthesized vanillin has a single fragrance, lacks the compound fragrance of natural vanillin, and is easy to cause environmental pollution problems.

3. Microbial fermentation

In recent years, vanillin prepared from natural raw materials such as eugenol and ferulic acid has become more and more popular in the high-end market, and the global market demand continues to grow.

HSF Biotech provides high quality natural vanillin powder by Microbial fermentation.
